Parks of the Peak: Kelly Road Park

Updated: Apr 22, 2022

The last remaining wooden castle playground in the whole Triangle, Kelly Road Park is well-kept and well-loved by our community. Not only that, but it definitely gets my vote for BEST playground in Apex!

Visiting this park even made it on my list of 13 Things to Do in Apex this Spring!

- Castle Playground for Ages 5-12

- Various Swings for All Ages

- Sandbox

- Tennis Court

- 4 Junior Tennis/Pickleball Courts

- Lighted Softball Field

- Half-Basketball Court

- Large Picnic Shelter with Grill

- Smaller Picnic Shelter

- Picnic Tables

- Restrooms

- Trailhead to Beaver Creek Greenway

Kelly Road Park has so much to offer for kids and adults, no matter how young or old. My son, Charlie (now 14), and I have been loving this park since he was only two years old - and he still has a ton of fun every time we go! And since it's just a quick walk on the greenway from our house... we still go quite a bit.

As soon as you arrive, you can’t miss the pièce de résistance… the oh-so-bright-and-colorful castle itself! Your kids will love to spend countless hours climbing all over this thing and enjoying the many slides, bridges, hideouts, monkey bars, climbing ropes, fireman’s pole, and more.

Kiddos can also hop on over to the various swings, including the popular tire swing, and the “spinning carousel cyclone thingamajig” (yes, yes, I know that's not it’s actual name, but who the heck knows what it’s really called?!).

As an added bonus, the STUH-NING flowering trees scattered all around the park provide for some nice shade and a beautiful view during the Spring!

The littlest visitors can enjoy their own private playground separate from the bigger kids, complete with bucket swings and small play structure with balance beams. The sandbox located within the main area is also a popular spot for the little ones.

For the sports-lovers, the park features a lighted softball field that can even be rented out (more information here), a tennis court, half-basketball court, and four junior tennis/pickleball courts.

Find plenty of shade on a hot day under the many beautiful trees, either of two picnic shelters with tables, or while walking along the Beaver Creek Greenway that is directly accessible from the park.

Since Kelly Road Park is located right around the corner from Publix… I can’t help but recommend enhancing your visit by grabbing a few “Pub Subs” and some sweet tea for a lovely picnic while you’re there!

Located at 1609 Kelly Road, the park is open year-round from 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Visit the Town of Apex website for information on how to reserve the picnic shelter for a birthday party or other type of gathering.

I hope to see you out and about in Apex soon!
