Explore the Breweries of Apex

Updated: Mar 2, 2023

As the weather begins to warm up each year, there’s not much more I love to do than spend a relaxing afternoon with a beer and some friends at one of the wonderful breweries here in Apex, NC. Who am I kidding, our Apex breweries are great to visit all year long!

What I love is most is that the breweries on this list are family-friendly (think large open play spaces and snacks), dog-friendly, and consistently host a rotating schedule of food trucks on site to keep you happy and fed too.

Southern Peak Brewery

Southern Peak Brewery is located just outside Downtown Apex and tucked within a charming neighborhood, The Villages of Apex. It features a 7-barrel brewery and taproom, where they focus on producing German style beers, lagers, and IPAs.

It offers a really wonderful family-friendly atmosphere, and they even welcome your pups! There is both indoor seating and an outdoor patio with picnic tables and umbrellas. A private space that holds around 20-25 people can be rented out for events and is located inside as well.

My favorite things about Southern Peak are the snacks available for kiddos (and hungry adults!), the selection of games to enjoy while hanging out, and the rotating line-up of food trucks that are present daily.

You can even play trivia every other Wednesday, join their weekly Run Club that meets every Thursday night, and enjoy live music every other Saturday! They also host fun special events like “Balance & Beer Yoga” on occasion.

Keep up with their Event Calendar or follow along on Facebook or Instagram for updates!

Vicious Fishes

Vicious Fishes Brewery in Apex features a dog-friendly taproom, expansive biergarten, and regular food truck rotation. There’s even a coffee shop attached called Piranha Joe Coffee that makes for a perfect spot to enjoy a latte and breakfast while working remotely!

I personally love hanging out at Vicious Fishes so much, that I included grabbing your pup for an afternoon there on my list of 13 Things to Do in Apex This Spring!

On a nice day, definitely take advantage of the huge outdoor space with tons of picnic tables, cornhole boards available to play, a grassy area for the kiddos to run around (we love to bring an oversized soccer ball to kick around), and a few firepits for those chillier spring or fall evenings.

Follow their Facebook page for regular updates - and if you want to explore other locations in addition to Vicious Fishes Apex, also check out their spots in Fuquay Varina, Angier, and soon-to-be in Cary as well!

TapStation

The newest addition to Downtown Apex, TapStation took over the old Holt & Sons building at the corner of Salem and Williams Street while also retaining the really fun and unique character of it’s predecessor! It's owned by the same team that has already brought us Scratch Kitchen & Taproom here in Apex as well as Mason Jar Tavern and Mason Jar Lager Company down in Holly Springs and Fuquay.

The two-story building with a service station theme features a family-friendly restaurant, rooftop patio bar, playground area, outdoor picnic tables, firepit, a curated whiskey selection, and an incredible menu of delicious food.

Check out their Facebook to stay up-to-date on what's going on!
